Ms. Tanyi began her nursing career in 1988 as a nurse's aide while pursuing a journalism degree. Because of her interest in medical journalism, she became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1994. In her quest to better understand nursing and health care, and in order to be well equipped as a medical writer, she became a registered nurse and subsequently a nurse practitioner. She was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau, International Honor Society of Nursing for her academic and leadership achievements in 2001. Her 2002 Master's thesis from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire won the Student Research Award from the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Delta Phi Chapter.
Throughout her nursing career, especially in her role as a nurse practitioner, Ms. Tanyi has witnessed thousands of patients suffer needlessly from diseases that could have been prevented. Patients either did not know how to prevent the diseases or they wouldn't commit to changing their lifestyle. If they were going to change their lifestyles, only knowledge would give them the power to do it. Ms. Tanyi realized that patients needed more information about their condition. Because she wanted to better understand how Mind-Body-Spirit lifestyle interventions prevent diseases in the cells of the human body, Ms. Tanyi decided to pursue her doctoral education in this area.
Ms. Tanyi has published several scientific articles in national and international peer-reviewed academic health journals. Her research and publications have focused in the areas of spirituality and health in various populations, sickle cell disease, end-stage kidney disease, and adjusting to hemodialysis treatment. She is the primary author of a research publication selected as a Continuing Education Article for the American Journal of Nephrology Nursing, September/October 2006 edition, and nominated for a writing contest.
Since 2003, she has served as an external United States-based reviewer of articles for publication for the international peer-reviewed Journal of Advanced Nursing , United Kingdom . She is a public speaker on many health topics focusing on lifestyle interventions , including diabetes prevention and wellness, major depression, spirituality and health, kidney disease and adjustment
Ms. Tanyi's publications can be accessed via electronic academic databases: Pubmed/Medline, CINAHL, ProQuest, EBSCOhost, etc.
Doctoral Research Interest: Mind-Body-Spirit lifestyle interventions such as nutrition, exercise, stress reduction, humor/laughter, and positive emotions, and their effects in enhancing the immune system and preventing major depression. |
